The Magic the Gathering Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles set is positively rife with humor, in jokes, and funny meme references. As I sit here, alone in a dark room, opening up (metaphorical) packs of this much beloved set, I just can't stop laughing. The humor and jokes that ninja turtles inject into Magic the Gathering are just that funny! So come along with me on this rollercoaster ride of fun as we go through the top 5 funniest cards in the most recent magic set.

I just couldn't stop giggling. So instead of being an honorable mention, I decided to give this card its own slot in the top 5 funniest TMNT Magic cards. Think about it, the pizza taps for mana…and the pizza has a banana sun on it…and the sun stands for plains mana. Even looking at it now I'm finding it hard to type with how hard I am lau

Now, since the last one was a pizza land it might be a little odd that the next one on the list also includes pizza, but this one is just too funny not to include. After this one though I promise not to cover another pizza card.

Look at how the cheese melts into the ground like an inverted, cheesy eruption from a dairy volcano. Gaze at the anchovies and the droplet shaped onion. Anyone who ate this pizza would have stinky breath for days! And who knows what sort of calamity this would bring to the New York sewer system! I can just imagine a large sentient turtle taking a bite of this just to gross out more normie consumers of pizza. What funny, sitcom-like hijinks could ensue if just one of these were allowed to exist?

Because this is an island, the humor is more cerebral than most of the other jokes in the set. You have to think about it, just like how blue players are forced to think about why no one wants to play with them anymore. And if you think even more, the jokes just go deeper. Like a deep-dish pizza, this humor is extra thicc. The pizza is pretending to be an island. Maybe the pizza can get away with fooling the mono-white plains players, but to try and fool the blue players, this is truly an effort in futility. But then you realize, the blue players are in on the joke. They aren't fooled into treating foods as lands, they're tricking everyone else into thinking their foods tap for blue mana. They don't even need Urza anymore! By just slapping a fancy shaped onion onto their lunch they now have all the mana they need to ruin your day. It's because of those hilarious reasons that this is easily the 4th funniest reference in the TMNT set!

Now, I know I promised not to include another pizza card, but after reconsidering all the hilarious jokes in this collection of cardboard, I just had to include this next one. Trust me, you'll be laughing just as much as I am when you see this card! Besides, promises are like windows; they're made to be broken.

And speaking of windows, this next card shattered the window of seriousness like a large, pizza-shaped brick.
I've got one word for you: cannibalism. Such a funny word and such a funny concept. With this <BlogCardLink cardId="MTG-TMT-257" title="Pizza Forest" />, TMNT explores such laugh-inducing topics in a subtle and tasty manner.

By having the pizza toppings be green and the turtles also be green, it is heavily implied that the turtle holding the green will eat the green. Just like Soylent Green, the pizza depicted here is green. Thus, the turtle is certainly about to commit the cannibalism. Furthermore, this land is a subtle nod to the hit romcom the Silence of the Lambs because Hannibal Lecter loved playing green in his magic games. It's because of cannibalism that this card is locked in as the number 3 funniest card in TMNT.

Now I know what you're thinking…"Is this list only about pizza lands?" And although that is a fair question, this next selection might make you change your tune a little.

The humor of this one contrasts all the rest in that it is the darkest. Each previous pizza installment featured funny elements such as banana, onion, and cannibalism. This one, however, takes a much darker turn with a scary looking mushroom. For all we know, that mushroom could be deadly. Imagine that! A pizza parlor in the magical plane of New York serving poisoned pizza to a sentient rat. It is this macabre dance with death, this stark contrast from the other pizza lands that perhaps make this the funniest of all. "One pizza to rule them all, one pizza to feed them, one pizza to bathroom stall, and with the old cheese eat them." These are the words written upon Master Splinter's katana. Mono-black players know this saying well for they chant it every night before bedtime. The saying is the secret to their power and the only true power they hold over you. But that power does come at a price. They have to run pizza swamps! And it's because of this fact that it is the second most funny card from the TMNT set.

…An eight mana 1/1 that can be morphed as a face down 2/2. Truly an historic card from an hysterical set! If only it were Legendary, then it would probably be a favorite commander for cEDH. From what I hear, Scornful Egotist is already making waves in standard, pauper, pioneer, legacy, modern, and Yugioh. Step aside <BlogCardLink cardId="MTG-TLA-167" title="Badgermole Cub" />, a new king's in town. Think about it, if you morph Scornful Egotist, it has twice the power AND toughness of Badgermole Cub. It's because this card is so powerful, gooey, and versatile, that it was a shoe in for the top pick as the funniest card in all of MTG TMNT!
